A New (Old?) Song

Thu, 14 Jun 2007 @ 15:39  music

I took a break from the job-search to mixdown a single version of the song 'D Street' from our unreleased album Blue. This song was recorded in 2002 with Erik on the baritone guitar and Chris (that's me) doing vocals and guitar. It definately sounds like the songs on our previous release F***ed Up and was a lot of fun to write and record....

Progressive Rock...?

Mon, 11 Jun 2007 @ 13:12  music

Practice 2007

Uh oh... It was recently brought to my attention that some of our new songs are not really progressive rock... (although some are). So this album is going to go as planned... But the next batch of songs (some of which are already being planned/imagined/written/composed as we speak) will have more: key changes, time signature changes, tempo changes, and run-on licks that traverse 3 instruments... you bet!

We've always had pretty much a classic rock sound (sometimes a bit hillbilly, sometimes a bit jazzy, sometimes just weird) which makes sense 'cause we all grew up listening to similar stuff even though we lived in different states.

Progress

Wed, 16 May 2007 @ 20:27  music

We really are recording again, we only have a few hours a week to record so it's been going slowly. We got good drum takes of two of our newer songs last week. We also (finally) got a good recording and arrangement for "Have A Feeling" recently, a song we have been working on for quite a while. Last week we recorded our warm up jams and got a new song out of it, I've been working on lyrics and the guitar part all day.

Apogaea

Sat, 12 May 2007 @ 12:48  music

Kevin has gotten us a gig at Apogaea next month. We'll be playing mostly new songs (we're also planning on 4 or 5 older songs). A chance to play our new songs before the album is released! We planned on waiting to get gigs 'till we were finished recording, well we're almost finished... I don't really know what to expect, hopefully the people will be into our sound.

We're playing on June 9th, but I'm not sure of the time. Hope to see you there!

-Chris

Next Update, Please...

Tue, 24 Apr 2007 @ 16:21  videogames

OK, the blog works now (well at least on the one computer I tested it on). I doubt anyone is going to read this, but what the hell... and I promise I'll update the site soon.

Kevin brought his digital camera to practice last week and we got a few new pics of us playing. He also lined up another gig for us soon (another private party, sorry). We have been so focused on recording that it will be fun to go play these songs live (especially the new ones), not just playing the same song over and over in the studio until you get the best performance. I think the quality of the recording and songwriting is the best work that I have ever been a part of and I can't wait until it's finished.

Recording

Sat, 17 Mar 2007 @ 10:25  music

As a band (and as individuals) we've [Beckament Band] decided to record everything at small to medium sized studios (even houses!) for several reasons... When we record in a large studio it's a rushed experience, very little about it is enjoyable. We're always thinking about how much it will cost rather than focusing 100% on making our music.
